Peñíscola, del Cid a Juego de Tronos-Vive Peñíscola Tours

About the Tour / Guided Visit

In this tribute to the Seventh Art, we’ll revisit the locations of legendary shoots set against the unmistakable silhouette of the City in the Sea, without forgetting its characters… From some of the most famous, Oscar-winning actors of the golden age of Hollywood, such as Charlton Heston, Sofia Loren or Edmund Gwenn, to some of the most beloved actors in Spanish cinema, such as Concha Velasco, Fernando Esteso, Juan Calvo, Pepe Isbert, Florinda Chico or José Luis Ozores.

We’ll be moved by the wise Hamilton in Calabuch, experience a heroic epic with El Cid, have a laugh with the Priest’s Son or Chiringuito de Pepe, and return to the most fantastic Middle Ages with the acclaimed international series Game of Thrones. But we’ll go further and delve into everything that happened behind the scenes of those shoots…

Itinerary

We’ll meet in front of Playa Norte, opposite the Tourist Office, at the exact same spot where Hollywood filmed a legendary scene of the Seventh Art: El Cid, played by Charlton Heston, riding victorious after the conquest of the Muslim city of Valencia.

But who was El Cid really? Did you know that filming it would change Peñíscola’s skyline forever?

As we walk through Plaza de Santa María, we’ll revisit the epic locations from the Game of Thrones series, featured in up to three episodes of season six. Peñíscola was transformed into Meereen, the City of Slaves that was freed by Danaerys. After visiting the slave market locations, we’ll head up to the Paso de Ronda, Tyrion and Lord Varys’ refuge when the city alarm sounds, and the place from which they watch the burning of the naval fleet.

After passing through the imposing Portal Fosc, we’ll head to the Parque de Artillería, a beautiful natural setting that has starred in countless shoots, and where new GOT characters such as Missandei and Grey Worm appear.

After that, we’ll move up to the upper part of the town, in front of the Church of the Virgin of Ermitana. Here we’ll trace the footsteps of the man considered the best director in Spanish cinema, the legendary Berlanga, who shot two films in Peñíscola: Calabuch, and his final film, Paris Tombuctú… Not forgetting series such as Chiringuito de Pepe or The Ministry of Time.

We’ll finish the tour in the heart of the walled city, on Calle Mayor, with a fantastic tasting of km0 gourmet products.
