The Serra d’Irta Natural Park can be enjoyed through many routes with different landscapes and difficulty levels. On this route, we offer a short tour where you can enjoy many of Irta’s attractions: beaches, cliffs, spectacular terracing, great views, wild vegetation, and the remains of an ancient Moorish settlement that gives the mountain range its name.
Walk along paths populated with rosemary, thyme, and lavender. Rediscover the constructions made by the inhabitants of the Sierra: the Moors whose cattle grazed on this mountain range 400 years ago, and the people of Peñíscola who fled to these places during the French occupation during the War of Independence.
Head onto the trail until you spot the Columbretes Islands, located 35 miles (65 km) off the coast. Enjoy a magnificent view of the rocky tombolo, crowned by Peñíscola. Head down to the edge of the Mediterranean Sea and stroll along the ancient coastal livestock trail.
And as a finishing touch, rest at the foot of the Badum Tower, an ancient watchtower located on the second-highest cliffs in the Valencian Community.
