Enjoy the stunning panoramic views and heritage of the heart of the Sierra de Irta Natural Park.

About the Tour / Guided Visit

Just a few decades ago, the Sierra de Irta was a land intensely exploited by our ancestors to survive. Shepherds, farmers, and palm harvesters worked among these mountains, now silent.

On this route, you’ll discover the most hidden and unknown Sierra de Irta. Enter the cave where some locals from Peñíscola took refuge during the Spanish Civil War and where flocks have gathered for centuries. Get to know Baltasar’s corral, large in size and with magnificent views. Discover how lime was obtained for whitewashing and purifying water.

Walk on the mud of Baseta Groga, where water was collected for livestock. Be amazed by one of the largest concentrations of dry-stone huts – constructions made with stone without mortar – in the Vistahermosa area, undoubtedly the highest cultivated area of the Sierra de Irta, abandoned since 1956. Discover why this area is called Vistahermosa. And, as a bonus, visit the hermitage of San Antonio, with documented origins dating back at least to the 14th century.
