We begin our tour at the hermitage of San Gregorio de Benicarló, in the heart of the town’s agricultural area.

We will visit this sanctuary, built to protect crops from locust attacks, and delve into the agricultural roots of the city of Benicarló. The richness of the Benicarló garden has been proverbial and has its roots in the contributions of the Muslim period.

We will explore the evolution of the artichoke, its origin and history, its legends, as well as the surprising gastronomic applications it has had throughout the centuries.

Afterwards, we will move to a nearby artichoke field of the Benicarló Artichoke Designation of Origin, where we will have the unique opportunity to participate in the harvest, taste the fresh flower, and learn the best-kept secrets of its cultivation from an expert local producer. Each participant will be able to pick their own four freshly harvested artichokes.

We will conclude the experience with a tasting of local artisan products made with Benicarló Artichoke.
